Jon Tester: "I want to REPEAL the Patriot Act" - not just weaken it
The right wing pundits and spokesmen for the wingnuttery have tried to use the Patriot Act and the Torture Bill as issues to declare that Democrats are weak on terrorism. However, Senator-elect, Jon Tester, a man with all of his faculties, unlike the pundits, fights back.
On September 23, 2006, during a debate, Senator Conrad Burns declared this about candidate Tester, as written in The Great Falls Tribune:
"He [Tester] wants to weaken the Patriot Act,"
"I [Tester] don't want to weaken the Patriot Act, I want to repeal it. What it does, it takes away your freedom ... and when you take away our freedoms, the terrorists have won,"
Most Democratic candidates would probably have engaged in convoluted speech while trying to appear strong on terrorism in the face of the nasty tone of Burns. But Tester, a man with real backbone, stated clearly and explicitly that he didn't want to weaken it, he wanted to repeal it. This brings Repeal-AUMF real partners in both the House and the Senate to sponsor the Repeal AUMF act.
We should send our packet of information to all the new democrats in office, in an effort to get this insult to our freedoms repealed before the '08 election.
Senator-elect Tester has eloquently shown his distaste for this unconstitutional legislation. We should not let this opportunity pass to ask him to join us, or let us join him.
Do you trust me to write to him? or would someone else like to do it?
Jordie

We should *all* write him, and encourage all our friends as well. In addition I'm thinking we should try to get out another fax blast, maybe we can time it with the opening of the new Congress? But it's going to be harder to get info for the incoming folks. Great catch, Jordie!!
